The Gantry-Type Sand Suction Machine, also known as a Bridge-Type Sand Suction Machine, is primarily used in aeration grit chambers of municipal wastewater treatment plants. Municipal wastewater is collected through sewer networks and conveyed to treatment plants, inevitably carrying a significant amount of sand and grit. Grit chambers are therefore necessary to separate this material. Common types of grit chambers include cyclone grit chambers and aeration grit chambers.

Working Principle

 

The machine mainly consists of a gantry drive device, a scum removal device, a sand suction system, a rail system, and an electrical control system.

The working principle of the gantry-type sand suction machine is similar in structure to that of a gantry-type pump suction dredger. The machine travels back and forth along the rails under the action of the drive device. During its movement, the sand suction system operates simultaneously, pumping the settled sand and grit from the grit hopper to a grit classifier. The scum removal device, guided by a mechanical limit mechanism, skims floating scum into a collection container for periodic removal as the gantry moves.

The sand lifting method employed by the gantry-type sand suction machine is pump-based. Given the high abrasiveness of sand and grit in wastewater, the selected pump must be highly wear-resistant, typically a submersible sewage pump or a submerged pump.
