Product Introduction

How to detect whether the gate is leaking?

1. Visual inspection and basic inspection

‌Appearance inspection‌:

Observe whether there is rust, deformation or cracks on the surface of the gate, and focus on the contact between the door frame, water stop and the gate groove‌.

Check whether the sealing strip is aging, falling off or hardening, and touch the sealing surface with your hand to confirm the tightness of the fit‌.

Temperature detection method:

After closing the gate for 4-6 hours, use an infrared thermometer to measure the temperature of the downstream area of the gate (such as the gate groove or near the valve stem). If the local temperature exceeds 70°C, it may indicate internal leakage‌.

Applicable to metal gates, and ambient temperature interference (such as direct sunlight) must be eliminated‌.

2. Physical detection technology

Acoustic detection method‌: Use an ultrasonic detector to scan along the periphery of the gate, and locate the leak by receiving the high-frequency sound wave signal of the leak point. It is suitable for deep buried or hidden areas of pipelines‌.

The three-point test method is adopted: the difference in sound wave intensity is measured at 1 times the pipe diameter upstream and downstream of the gate and 2 times the pipe diameter downstream. If the downstream signal is significantly enhanced, it is determined to be leaking.

Pressure test method‌

Pressure detection‌: Compressed air or water is filled into the closed cavity of the gate to monitor the pressure change. If the pressure continues to drop, it indicates a leak.

Pressure drop method‌: After closing the upstream and downstream valves, inject fluid and observe the changes in the pressure gauge readings. It is suitable for small gates or local sealing detection.

3. Functional test and instrument assistance

‌Opening and closing function verification‌:

Manually or electrically operate the gate to open and close, observe whether it fits the gate groove after closing, and whether there is abnormal friction or jamming during the detection process.

Test whether the opening and closing stroke limit device is calibrated to avoid sealing failure due to over-limit operation.

‌Professional instrument detection‌:

Bubble method‌: After the closed gate is inflated, it is immersed in water, and the location and frequency of bubble generation are observed to intuitively determine the leakage point (no interference environment is required).

Thermal imaging method: Use an infrared thermal imager to capture the difference in temperature distribution on the gate surface and identify local low-temperature areas caused by water leakage.

4. Comprehensive evaluation and recording

Multi-method cross-validation:

Complex scenarios can combine sound waves, pressure tests and thermal imaging technology to comprehensively locate leaks and improve detection accuracy.

Repeat tests on suspected leaking areas to eliminate environmental interference (such as water flow noise and temperature fluctuations)

Data recording and analysis:

Establish a detection file to record the location of the leak, the detection method and the repair effect for subsequent tracking and maintenance.

Regularly review high-frequency leakage areas (such as welds and gate groove connections) to warn of potential risks in advance.

5. Precautions

Detection scenario adaptation: Large water conservancy gates prefer sound wave detection and pressure testing;

Home or small gates can simplify visual inspection and bubble method.

Protection: Underwater detection must be operated by professional divers and equipped with underwater lighting and communication equipment.

Through the above methods, gate leakage problems can be systematically detected and combined with maintenance plans to extend the service life of the equipment.
